I attempted to uninstall the family safety One Care (whatever it is called) using the uninstall feature in add remove programs.  The process failed to complete and my computer froze so I hard booted the machine.  It left the product on my computer and the uninstall link was gone.

HA! I thought.  I can get rid of this.  So I deleted the directory ended the services in task manager, deleted the remaining items.  I rebooted the computer and now I have no way to connect to the internet!!!

Foiled again!!!  Help me restore the internet connection!!!!

  • To all,

I spent a number of hours on this one and finally gave up.  Registry hacks, Temp folders, everything I could think of.  I suspect there is a reg entry that I missed.

I was able to go back to a prior restore point before the Family Safety was installed.

My recomendation is to do the same.

To go back to a prior restore point it is really easy.  (if you have it turned on)

Start > Help and Support > Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.  It is pretty easy from there.

I can't use a mac.  I don't understand the interface.  Funny!!! but true....

    Good luck!

  • Stephen-- It would me most useful if you could give us a link to a solution rather than exacerbating our frustration. PLEASE. My situation is identical to the others. Luckliy some of us have more than one computer. Please help rather than divert.

  • AlSmith;

I'm not sure why you think that Steven Boots should know anything at all about OneCare Family Safety, although perhaps he does. However, you should first look here:

    http://help.live.com/help.aspx?project=oc_family_safety&market=en-us&querytype=topic&query=pc_proc_installsetup.htm

I don't know anything about Windows Live OneCare Family Safety, but the usual recourse in the event of failed Microsoft product removals is to use the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301#appliesto

It doesn't sound like your situation can deteriorate too much further if you do chose to use it, but as is the case with all "as is" products, you should have your backup and leave your backout options available. Good luck.

  • With Vista it wont uninstall unless your in the actual Administrator account. If your in any
other account EVEN if you type in the AD Password it will not uninstall. It uninstalled 1st try
when I went into the AD Account
