Build New PC - Purchase & Install OEM XP RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am considering building myself a new PC to my specs.

I understand I can purchase and install an OEM copy of a Microsoft operating system on it. I understand that this saves me money but limits the installation to the motherboard of the new system.

    1) Can I still purchase Windows XP for installation?

    2) If so, how would I go about getting a legitimate OEM copy of the operating system to install on the machine?

No, I am not interested in Vista. When I read that the installation of software can trigger a 72 hour threat to shut down the system just to protect MS from piracy, I'm not interested in the product.

I switch to a MAC before I run Vista.

Answers

  • OEM copies of Windows XP are only available from local system builders or OEM distributors.

Please contact your local retailer for purchase options, as well - we cannot discuss legal questions (in relation to OEM EULA usage and terms of use). You need to go to www.microsoft.com/legal to contact our legal department for EULA interpretations.
