debugging kernel in a virtual machine RRS feed

    I am running windbg on windows vista and I am running windows server 2003 sp1 on VMWare.

     

    Is there a way that I can debug the WRK from within the kernel? could you please tell me the command if available?

    I think I found an old kb-article that pretty much describes how that can be done.

    I'm no expert on the matter but I think you're implying to debug a kernel in 'real mode' ?!

    Correct me if I'm wrong but that would be using two handles on the file that can't possibly go together.

    Hi,

     

    we maintain a blog on the WRK and prepared a post on how to debug the WRK when running in a virtual machine. Please have a look at this site. I hope this site may help you. For debugging purposes it does not matter on what platform the kernel debugger (kd or WinDbg) runs. Just ensure that you use the latest version.
