Office 2003 Pro - all software in it says its not genuine. I just bought new software 2003 at BestBuy. Do I uninstall or just install? RRS feed

  • Question

  • 3 weeks ago My Office 2003 Pro (word, excel, outlook etc...) started showing a message that its not genuine.  I don't know how that happened but I just bought Microsoft Office Pro 2003 from Bestbuy local store.   Since my computer I bought 4 years ago had this unauthorized office 2003 on it, my question is:

I am not going to upgrade, but want to install authorized version of Office 2003 Pro.
QUESTION:  since I have it already on my computer, do I uninstall it fist and then install the authorized version?
    OR
Do I just install the authorized version right on top of the unauthorized version without uninstalling it first?

Please be detailed on your answer including step by step overview of your answer.  Thank you.

  • Hello nightwhisper,

If you want to try to just change the nongenuine product key to a genuine one, try the steps in this MS KB:  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/895456

Otherwise, simply uninstall the current Office, restart twice, then install the replacement Office.

When done installing and activating, visit www.microsoft.com/genuine to make sure the new installation Validates properly.
