Genuine validation, key for my 64 bit windows 7 home premium is "Unable to be used" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently changed hardware on my computer and moved the hard drive to a new tower, ever since I've been having my computer bug me on my version of windows 7 home premium not being genuine.

I entered the key to resolve and it said it was unable to be used, and I'm out of idea on how to fix it without needing customer support.

You would appear not to have activated the installation.
Simply activate it over the internet, and it should work fine.
    If not, use telephone activation.

    Telephone Activation:

    Click on Start

    In the Search box, type

    SLUI   4

    hit the Enter key

Follow the instructions  - when the automated system asks which service you require , do NOT respond. This should force an operator to pick up, who can deal with your call.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

  • If the copy of Windows you moved was OEM (preinstalled by the old computer's manufacturer or a system builder OEM copy you bought) then that copy of Windows is no longer valid. OEM copies cannot be moved to a different computer. Post the MGADiag report as Noel requests but I suspect your product key is not valid on the new tower and you need to purchase a full license copy of Windows 7.
