Good Morning,
One of the most important things in the process is accessing your resources.
Do you know anyone in a particular IT field already?
Are they willing to help you learn and provide you with the tools you need?
Sometimes going where the resources are can save you a lot of time and energy.
If this isn't the case, I will be glad to mentor you in this process. I've started with my A+ certification in the mid 90's, then my MCSE, then Cisco certifications. Since then I found my niche in the Windows \ Exchange Server suite.
Step 1. Basic Knowledge
CompTIA - http://certification.comptia.org/getCertified/certifications/a.aspx
Step 2. Workstation Knowledge
MCSA: Windows 8 - http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/mcsa-windows-8-certification.aspx
Step 3. Windows Server and Email
MCSE: Messaging - http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/mcse-messaging-certification.aspx
