CRM 2013: Do not display Quick Create form in Global "Create" button RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have a large solution built on top of CRM, with lots and lots of entities. We are looking to heavily utilize the new Quick Create form as much as possible in order to streamline the data entry, but after reviewing the feature we are running into an issue and wanted to see if anyone feels the same or if there's a way to change the default behavior.

Basically, it seems that in order to make use of the Quick Create feature you need to enable this feature on the entity level, by checking the box "Allow quick create". The problem with that is that if this is selected, it also adds that entity to the "global" create button and it pollutes the selection there with all the entities even those that make no sense in a global fashion.

Think about it for all these "configuration" entities where it doesn't really make sense to display them in the global create (say Originating Campaign field on the lead/account), as that is meant to create transaction or list data and not configuration data (hence the reason the CRM team didn't create a quick create).

We want to avoid confusion and eliminate the discrepancies in approach used to create new records, where at times you get the quick create and at times a window pops up (the classic way).

Has anyone else ran into this? any thoughts on a possible solution?

  • What happens if you Make a Quick Create Form but don't check the box "Enable Quick Create"?  Does that allow you to use the form as a lookup? It will take it out of the global nav, for sure.

  • Thanks Wayne. I did check this before, and once you un-check enable quick create, it never brings up the quick create form, even as a lookup.
