Dell Smartcard reader in optiplex 990 Model RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have replace the keyboard with a Dell smartcard reader keyboard in optiplex 990 model. I follow the instructions to load the drivers for Windows 7. When I insert the ID card and try to switch user to get login form for the card reader it never replace the conventional login form.

I ran the diagnostic tool (SmartDiagv2.3) tha comes with the CD, and it passes the test. Throught the Windows Device Manager I see I have two drivers install

which are the latest for this Windows 7

    c:\windows\system32\drivers\GKUPRO2.SYS version Gemalto 4.0.8.5

    c:\windows\system32\]drivers\scfilter.sys version Microsoft 6.1.7600.

I also see Microsoft Smart Card Resource Manager is auto and running.

The setup infromation Database says oem47.inf and smartcard.inf. We have another machine that have exactly the properties mention above except it also contains the files oem48.inf and eom49.inf. Do I need these two last ones?

    Last,

By following the screenshot of the instructions to install the drivers, The smart card reader device install in my machine is Smard Card Reader Keyboard and not Microsoft USBCCID Smartcard Reader (WUDF). Is it the same or different device?

This is consistent with Hardware and software requirements

x86 input 207T0_A00-00 Driver for Dell Smartcard Security Keyboard  For 32bit Windows 2K/XP/Vista/Server2003/Server2008/Seven use the inf file from folder 32bits\  For 64bit Windows XP/Vista/Server2003/Server2008/Seven use the inf file from folder 64bits\ A00 4.0.8.5

and the driver for Windows 7 is not

Microsoft Usbccid Smartcard Reader (WUDF) Microsoft 6.1.7600.16385

  • Finally I got it, it was a registry entry missing for the Credentials Providers for the login key. I was missing the one for the smart card and pin entries. It could be configure using group policy
