  • One of my drives has failed (seagate 250gb ), with no data on it.
    Trying to remove it from within the console, takes for ages.
    Eventually the console stops responding.
    I physically removed it, installed on my pc, and managed to open it. It is recognised, but it takes some time.
    Probably it is failing.
    Anyway, how am I supposed to remove the drive from the console?
    Is there a possibility that some shared files are open on the pc?

  • Once you've physically removed the drive (you have) removing it using the console should be very fast. If you have shares that aren't flagged for duplication, you may be warned that you'll lose files, and if any components of the backup database are stored on that drive, you'll be warned that you may lose backups.

    In the case of files in unduplicated shares, you can mount the drive to another computer on your network and copy files in shares not duplicated from it; they will be in <driveletter>:\DE\Shares\etc.. In the case of backups, use the Repair feature in the console to correct any issues. Warning: if you're warned that you'll lose backups, you will certainly lose something. You may lose the entire backup database, depending on which component(s) of the database were stored on the failed drive.
