Unable to download import template RRS feed

  • Question

  • In MS CRM Online I go to System->Management->Templates for data import (translated from Dutch so it might be a bit different in English).

In the popup I select 'Account' as the type for the template and click 'Download'.

Next it prompts me to save the file.

    The suggested filename = createtemplate_aspx?entityName=account

That looks a bit odd to me. I would expext and .xls filename. Also the Save button does not accept the suggested name.

When I change the suggested name in something like account.xls and continue, it fails. 'The file account.xls could not be downloaded'.

Is this a bug? Is there another way to obtain an import template? Apart van creating one yourself.

  • sorry i don´t mean trusted sites i mean the tab privacy and there under sites add the website

remove from local intranet and trusted sites, because this make everything slower in crm..

please remove via addremoveprogramm windows features, the ie9 reboot and add again ie9

i think u have a problem with your IE, or try on another machine.

i can´t refer to a kb, but as u wrote the "filename = createtemplate_aspx?entityName=account" looks like the same prob we also have, our workaround via IE9 solved this..

  • Hi,

Please have a look at http://rc.crm.dynamics.com/rc/2011/en-us/online/5.0/readme.htm

See section "Opening a Data Import template or XML Spreadsheet 2003 files for reimport fails with Microsoft Excel 2010".

I haven't worked on CRM 2011 online, but came across the above article.

I hope this helps.  If my response answered your question, please mark the response as an answer and also vote as helpful.

  • Hi,

I am not opening it in Excell. Apart from that we are still using Excell 2007 and according to the mentioned readme 'This issue is not observed when the files are opened with Microsoft Office Excel 2007.'

I click download and then save. But it fails with every option. (Open, Save, Save As...)

In addition I noticed the same happens when I export to Excel. Then it prompts a default name 'print_data_aspx'

Looks like download in general fails.

  • hi tvdpol,

did u tried it via outlook?

I have the same Problem, but when i do the same via Internet Explorer 7-9 it works, try via IE!

Also add in internet options under register privacy, add always trust your domain to sites.

Does this workaround solve your issue?

  • Outlook and IE 9 are giving the same results.

I added the domain to the trusted sites where possible.

I resetted the security to its defaults and cleared my cache.

I tried disabling as much add-ons as possible.

I tried changing the browser mode via Developer tools (F12)

    No luck so far.

  • You where right about my IE.

Internet options->Advanced->Reset did the trick. So obvious that I missed it :)

    Thanks.
