Vista 64 license issue with sony laptop RRS feed

  • Question

  • A USB port went bad on my Sony laptop (VGN-FW351J) so it was sent for warranty repair.  Months later I found the need to restore the hard drive using the recovery media that I had created when I first got the computer.  I wanted do do a clean/full recovery.  After the hard drive was formatted and the recovery had begun, it would fail.  Is it possible that the motherboard was replaced and the recovery disks are not valid.  It was seviced and purchased at Best Buy.  Neither Sony or Best Buy were helpful since it is now out of Warranty.

You haven't provided enough information for us to be able to comment - the chances are that if a USB port went bad, the motherboard would have been replaced, but that should not have resulted in your present problems, unless the replacement was no identical to the original.
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
