Windows Genuine Error RRS feed

  • Question

  • Last Thursday we started receiving the genuine error - even though we've had the comptuer since September.  We are also noticing extremely slow boot times - over 30 minutes, control panel blank, my computer properties blank, and cannot connect with any printers.

I have run the net start slsvc.

I have done the software licensing set to automatic.

These worked until I rebooted and then it was back (did it twice).  Now it will not work.

    Any thoughts?

  • Hello Andy,

Below are the steps to reset the Software Licensing Service to start at every Vista boot.

    1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in:  services.msc

    2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

    3. The Services window should now open.

    4. Scroll down to Software Licensing, then right-click on it and select Properties.

    5. Under the General tab, click on the Stop button.

    6. Set the Startup Type to Automatic, then click Apply.

    7. Next, click on the Start button under Service Status.

    8. Last, restart your computer.

    Thank you,

  • It maybe a hard disk issue.

    Check the hard disk

    =====================

    1. Click “Start”, and click “Computer”.

    2. Right-click the hard disk drive that you want to check, and then click "Properties".

    3. Click the "Tools" tab, and then, under "Error-checking", click "Check" Now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Note: Check for both file errors and physical errors, by selecting both “Automatically fix file system errors” and “Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors”.

    4. Click "Start".

Then, please access http://www.microsoft.com/genuine to validate the system again.

This posting will be moved over to the Vista Forum for Windows Genuine Advantage as the diagnostics

show this is a Windows Vista operating system.
