When is the latest for me to take 70-646 and 70-647 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Everyone,

I am currently MCSA and MCSE in Windows 2000 and 2003.

I have the plan to go into MCITP in Server Administrator and Enterprise Administrator.

Which means I have to clear both 70-646 and 70-647 (pls correct me if I am wrong).

May I know when is the latest for me to take these 2 exams? Is there any expiry date to clear them?

Previously I know for MCSE 2003 upgrade exams, we need to clear the upgrade exams within 2 years.

Are there any for MCITP upgrade exams?

  • Hi Keith,

I fear that you need to take much more exams to get the 2 MCITP titles.

The 646 and 647 are only the PRO exams and you need all prerequisites to get the title from the exam!

On http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/cert-windowsserver.aspx#tab4 you find the upgrade paths.

So you can get the server administrator with 70-646 and 70-649 (So also the 70-649 is required! You can also take the 648 instead. One upgrades the MCSA and the other the MCSE! But for enterprise admin, the 649 is better because you have one exam less!)

When you want to get the Enterprise Administrator, you need some more exams:

    70-649 or (70-648 + 70-643)
    70-647
70-680 or 70-620 (or 70-624 which expires in end of oktober so no good choice!)

So in total I see 4 exams minmum you need to get your upgrades.

Regarding your question about timelines: The exams show no expire date so you can take them as long as your MCSE title is valid.

    I hope that helped.

    With kind regards,

    Konrad
