  • I have the following machines at home

    Laptop 80Gb drive

    Desktop 420Gb drive

Media Center PC 500Gb, 320Gb and 250Gb drives (TV, Music, photos etc)

I've just bought the parts for a WHS machine and I have a 250Gb and a 500Gb drive for it.

I can't decide which of these is the best plan...

    1. Shift the bulk of my storage into the WHS machine (giving it 500Gb x 2, 320Gb, 250Gb x 2 drives) and use the duplication feature to handle backups

    2. Build the WHS box with the 500,250Gb drives and use it to back up my other machines.

    Any thoughts?

  • Hi Dave

I think the honest answer to your question is what do you prefer?

If you are happy to have WHS act as your storage and you switch on folder duplication then I would say no 1 is the way to go. Thats what I have done and Im quite happy with it. Ok, I also ocassionally backup up my really really important stuff to an external hard drive, but thats just me :-)

No 2 is also a good one as you can have WHS manage all your backups and then you have mulitple copies of your data.

I suppose it all depends on what else you want to use WHS for - if you want to stream or share out your data then option  1 is for you!

    hope that helps?
