Widows XP license RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have purchased couple of new HP laptops with Windows Vista planning to replace some 4 years old unit with hardware poroblems running on Windows XP. We have made the decision that we are not ready yet to use Vista. Is there any way to use old licenses and install XP on the new units? Thanks

  • Yes, as long as the "old" Windows XP licenses are either retail or volume license versions that are not currently installed on other computers.  You'll have to check the HP support web site to see if Windows XP is indeed supported on the new HP laptop computers.

  • Eventually I’ve found the answer on the Microsoft site:

    http://oem.microsoft.com/script/contentpage.aspx?PageID=552836&wa=wsignin1.0

    http://oem.microsoft.com/script/ContentPage.aspx?pageid=552856

Microsoft member site User name and Password are required.

Windows XP Pro, Vista Business and Vista Ultimate are eligible for downgrade rights (include OEM versions).

  • All old licenses came with the old computers pre-installed from HP, so I don't know if it can be considered as retail version?
