Backup warning about "new hard drive" after reformat. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently reformatted my PC to upgrade from Win7 RC to RTM and the WHS connector now displays a backup warning that "HOSTNAME has a new hard drive. From the Windows Home Server Console, select HOSTNAME and client Configure Backup to choose which hard-drive volumes to back up."

Where HOSTNAME is the one of my newly reformatted laptop...

This is a laptop with one drive in it that has two partitions- the 100MB "System Reserve" partition Win7 created (which I left unchecked for the backup) and the C:\ drive which I have checked. I have no other USB drives or anything else plugged into the laptop.

Any thoughts on how to get rid of this message?

    Thanks!

  • I got it figured out. It was referring to the old image of my laptop before the upgrade. As soon as I turned off backups for it the warning went away.

Did you do an upgrade install of 7 (which is unsupported going from RC to RTM), or a clean install of RTM?  Also, you can try backing up the 100 MB System Reserved partition in addition to the regular C partition (it worked for me when I backed up everything, including the 100 MB partition).
