Windows Home Server backup service failed to start RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
I ran into a problem today. After 6 months of problem free operation one of my computers reported no backups in the last 7 days. When I logged into my windows home server I saw an error message indicating the "windows home server backup service failed to start". I went into services and tries to start it and it would start and immediately close. Reboots do not help. Suggestions needed, Please.

When you were in the management console, did you happen to take a look at the event logs? They may hold a clue as to what happened.  You're specifically looking for anything that might point to a HDD failure or potential of failure. (Set the filter level to warning and error)

Also, have you reviewed this KB?
Note: As mentioned in method 5, reseting the backup database will cause you to lose all your backups.

    Thank you

Have you tried running chkdsk /r on each drive in that client PC that doesn't backup?
