Does WHS support Fibre Channel Disk? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a test environment including a Xeon based server(with 80GB SATA internal hard drive) and a Fibre Channel Disk Array(IBM DS4800). I want to know if WHS can support such configurations.

Can I install the WHS on local SATA driver and extend the storage pool to the FC disk array?

  • As long as you have appropriate drivers for Windows 2003 available I can not see why it shouldn't work. Give it a try!

  • I suspect that it will work although it's HIGHLY unlikely that this has ever been tested.  After all, the H is HOME and not too many people have a fibre infrastructure in their homes (and I doubt ever will - FCoE at best).

FC disk just looks like local SCSI disk so WHS should not be able to tell the difference.  Just keep your firmware, drivers and multipathing software up to date...  And don't expect to make a ton of money on an Add-In to manage the load balance algorithms in your multipathing software :-)
