Office 2007 will not Activate on XP SP3 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have many new copies of Office 2007 Professional. I attempted to install it on one PC and it installs fine, it just will not Activate. It indicates that the key is invalid. I uninstalled it, rebooted, deleted opa12.dat, rebooted again, and attempted to install the same copy again. Again it failed. I took the same copy to a different pc, installed it, and Activation failed. I performed the same steps on this pc as I did to the previous one and it installed fine and Activated. I didn't touch the registry in either case. What else can I do? I've tried several different copies of Office 2007 on the pc that failed Activation and it continues to fail. Obviously, my copies are brand new retail versions and key are authentic. I also ran Windows Validation. XP validated, but Office 2007 Professional does not validate because it cannot Activate.

UPDATE: New attempt...After uninstalling, rebooting again, and deleting the OPA12.DAT file, I also went into regedit and deleted: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE, Microsoft, Office, 11.0, and 12.0. Rebooted and attempted another install using another new copy of Office 2007 Professional. Same result...it will not Activate. Went through the complete uninstall and deleting of everything indicated above and Reinstalled Office 2003 Standard. It Activated without any issues. I still need to get Office 2007 Professional installed on this XP SP3 workstation.

I was able to Activate the first copy that failed on this pc, on another pc, so it's not any of the Office 2007 Professional software. It is an issue on this pc that continues to fail Activation.

Do you have any other copies of any Office programs on the other computers? If so uninstall the program and any activation assistant you may find in the control panel on each machine.  Are all the computers up to date with all the service packs?

  • Hello Doyle Baker,

Could you run the mgadiag on the computer that was able to get this installation of Office activated and post it?

On the original computer that still can't activate an installation of Office, please try a Telephonic Activation and let us know the results.
