  • Question

  • Hi Guys,

I have a query. Please suggest some better ideas of performing this.

Initailly my organization had implemented the CRM 3.0 Version. Currrently they are using the CRM 3.0  from past one year. Now my company has a plan to move CRM 3.0 to  CRM 4.0 Online (CRM live hosted by Microsoft).

How to upgrade from CRM .3 0 to Dynamics CRM Online ?

Can we do normal upgrade as we for On-Premise/IFD versions  version ? As per my knoledge microsoft does not support this kind of upgrade for online version ?

Do we need to use the Data Migration tool to do the upgrade ? .

    Please share ideas on this

    thanks a lot

    Sharan

  • Hi Sharan,

I would combine Larry and Frank's approach. I don't know how heavy your CRM 3.0 customizations were. If you already done some heavy customization. I would use the 90 day trial key to upgrade 3.0 to 4.0. then export the customization and import to CRM 4.0 Online.

Then use a tool like Scribe to migrate the data over to CRM 4.0 Online.

    Hope this helps!

  • I would do an upgrade of your on-premise 3.0 to on-premise 4.0 (backup your 3.0 first!!). However, although moving from Online to On-premise is currently supported, I believe they have yet to perfect going from on-premise to on-line.

  • Only from Microsoft CRM Online to On Premise is supported.  Currently there is no support to easily "import organization" from an On Premise to Microsoft CRM Online.

Your option is to use a good data conversion tool that can connect to both On Premise and Online at the same time such as Scribe Software for Microsoft CRM.  From there it the typical data conversion process but a little easier since the objects and data fields area the same.
