Is it possible for WHS to backup a USB flash drive in a client computer? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a USB drive that I use outside of the house (during the day) but return to the one of my client computers that WHS backs up overnight.  I'm trying to figure out if it is possible for WHS to backup the USB drive plugged into the client computer.  I understand that WHS can only backup NTFS drives, and I formatted the USB flash drive with NTFS, but it still didn't recognize it when I ran the "Backup Configuration Wizard".  Is this possible?

  • Removable devices like flash drives can't generally be backed up, because the operating system (and therefore Windows Home Server) doesn't see them as hard drives.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
