  • Hello kgoering,

I don't see anything obvious in your Diagnostic Report which usually suggests that Vista's Licensing Store (or the data it contains) is messed up in some way.  Try the below steps to recreate the Licensing Store file.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    5) Type: net stop slsvc  (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    11) Restart your computer twice.
    12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or re-Activate. Make sure to use the Product Key that is listed on the sticker located on the side, bottom or (for some laptops) in the battery compartment of the PC. To re-activate, please use the By Phone method.

I also recommend rebooting once you are done with the above, if all has gone well, that should reset Vista and MSE back to a genuine state.

    Thank you,

  • I completed all of the above - to the letter.

Problem is the same as before - Windows Vista validated by phone.

As soon as the system boots up and I log in, when Security essentials comes on - it gives a message that  Windows did not pass genuine validation.

When I go online to resolve now - the error goes away - it asks to turn on real time protection and the goes back to the previous validation error.

This sounds more like a problem with MSE than anything else - I suspect that you may have dregs of a previous AV still remaining in your system.
What AV's have EVER been installed since the last clean system installation?
You need to run the manufacturer's removal tool for each, and then try uninstalling and reinstalling MSE - see if that helps.
