  • You say, "of course," but you didn't state that in your post.

Sorry for assuming that you were not using OneCare, but there are a significant number of posts here for virus problems that are not made by OneCare users. And sorry that you are having a problem with OneCare in this case, too.

In any event, the last paragraph of my response directs you to contact support for help with removal.

What do you mean by "stuck in a loop?" Are you seeing "Quarantine Failed?" or are you repeatedly getting a message from OneCare that the virus has been detected?

See this post for information about Quarantine Failed - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1548384&SiteID=2

  • Ah. That's annoying.

Okay, the following is *not* user friendly, but should be effective and is what support will likely have you do:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925222

This explains how to run OneCare in Safe Mode to scan the specific folder where the infection continues to be found per the report, or the entire computer, depending on how you execute the command line scan utility.

  • Check your caps lock and num local keys first.

I think it may be best for you to contact support as I originally suggested.

I'm not familiar with that .dll or why it would be locked when you are in Safe Mode.

Since you are using Windows Live OneCare and you have been infected, but OneCare cannot remove the malware, please contact support to report this and for help with removal.

  • The OneCare antimalware team is interested in hearing from anyone who is infected by this Trojan. If you have this Trojan detected and quarantined or quarantine failed, please send an email to me and I'll pass on your email to them. Please include your contact information in the message.

Use a Subject line including "OneCare BoaxxeB"

In the message body include this URL: http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3419228&SiteID=2

    Send it to sboots@mvps.org

    Thanks.
