SyncToy 2.1(x64) apparently causing problems with Outlook.pst RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm having a problem with syncing my Outlook PST. Not sure if it's been reported. Running SyncToy 2.1(x64) on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.

I have a personal folder structure under which there is a folder containing my Outlook.pst file. This file is approx. 1.2 GB in size. The overall size of the personal folder structure is 6.2 GB, and I have a folder pair set up to sync the whole thing over to an identical structure on another drive.

When I initially set this up as a scheduled task SyncToy was unable to sync Outlook.pst with Outlook 2007 running. I wasn't able to solve that problem, so I took to running SyncToy manually after closing Outlook. I now close Outlook from the file menu, then run SyncToy 2.1 and run the folder pair.

On three occasions now I have restarted Outlook the next morning and received the message that the Outlook.pst file cannot be opened. After restart Outlook is able to open the file, but complains that it was not closed properly and needs to be scanned.

I don't know if problems are being caused in other files that I don't access as often, but my confidence in SyncToy 2.1 has dropped considerably at this point. Has any one else experienced an issue with Outlook.pst or other large files?

  • I have met such issue with outlook 2007, even without using SyncToy to syncing the .pst file. My problem caused by I do not have enough space to hold the outlook files.

Not very sure yours. But could stable repro this after syncing with synctoy?

If you resolve the outlook could not open issue by re-open outlook, then you close outlook(release the accessing using to outlook.pst file), then run synctoy 2.1, what happen? Could you run successfully? After runing the syncing try to open outlook, have a try if there is still this problem.
