Firewall & Virus/Spyware turned off after resume from sleep state RRS feed

  • Question

  •

When I power on my toshiba laptop from a sleep (s3) state, onecare alerts me that the firewall and virus/spyware is turned off.  I have to manually turn them both on everytime this happens.  This all started after I upgraded to 2.0.2500.22.

I was hoping that uninstalling onecare and using the cleanup utility would solve my problem, but I am still experiencing the same issue.

I would greatly appreciate any help in resolving this issue.

  • I believe I have found the source of this problem.  I have been using Microsoft's (sysinternals) psshutdown command line utility in a vista sidebar gadget to sleep my laptop. For some unknown reason, that I am guessing will never be solved, onecare crashes when I use this sidebar app. If I use psshutdown to sleep  from the command line or via a shortcut, it works great.  Oh well,  it was a nice little shutdown gadget.

  • You can turn both on manually after the resume from sleep?

Do they start normally if you reboot the PC instead of resuming from sleep?

  • Yes, I can turn them both on from the onecare red alert panel buttons.  If I boot from shutdown or reboot the laptop, all of the services start normally.   It's really crazy.

I checked out the vista event log and this is the only error message I get right after resuming:

Broadcast messaging failed to contact the broadcast messaging server. URL=https://bm.onecare.live.com/bm.aspx?amb=0001000507980000&ame=000100010C840000&asd=0001001B1B6B0000&avd=0001001B1B6B0000&br=Default&ccv=000100080007000B&cv=0000000000000000&fv=0&g1=20&g2=GN&l=en-us&o=v&p=8&r=3&s={1033fb6e-438f-48aa-9ac5-f28fb1592ac4}&v=0002000009C40016. The data is the failure HRESULT.

By the way, I have two additional XP PCs in my onecare circle that can resume from sleep without an issue.

  • The Event Log error simply means that OneCare was unable to reach the update server to check for updates, which it does throughout the day.

I've never encountered a problem with OneCare when resuming from sleep. You may want to contact support.

How to reach support (FAQ) - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

I'll leave this thread unanswered in the hopes that someone else may have encountered this or that Support can help resolve it.
