Install Archiving on main OCS server? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I posted this in the Logging and Archiving section, but there doesn't seem to be much activity there, so I'm cross-posting here.

I have one Standard Edition server running in my org currently.  It provides internal-only IM and conferencing for about 600 users.  I plan to add an Edge server next quarter for external access.

I'd like to enable archiving.  Is it ok to install the archiving service on my current Standard Edition server and have it connect to a SQL 2000 database on another system?  Or am I required to add an addtional Standard Edition server to run the archving service?  (It would still connect to a separate SQL 2000 server)

  • When you run the installation for Archiving, it will allow you to pick the SQL server and instance to connect.  It does not have to be on that server.  You will have to have MSMQ installed in the domain first or Archiving will not work.

You can Install archiving service on the SE server.... The only problem you might face is performance. Youc an go ahead If hardware can support it..
