Question
-
I have setup One care for my computer and have subsribed to the service, but as of right now it isn't working anymore. it is consently at red and will not give me a reason behind the problem other than a message in the status box saying "OneCare has encountered a problem and might not be protecting this PC" and that's it, just a button to the help site, I tried looking for settings or other causes but no dice and I am losing my patiences with it.
I tried press the update but it reply that I wasn't a subscriber, I then went to my microsoft billing and account and it confirms my account good till 2009, I need some help please. Thank you

Recently, the main reason for this error in OneCare is a corrupted .Net Framework 2.0 update that causes OneCare to fail to function properly.
The following should help:
To repair .Net Framework 2.0 on XP:
Open Control Panel
Select Add or Remove Programs
Locate Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0
Select the entry and when the installer launches, select Repair.
Reboot when it completes.
Alternatively, see this KB article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306160
To remove a corrupt .Net Framework install, use this tool:
http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip
The download of .Net Framework 2.0 can be found here:
To repair .Net Framework 2.0 and 3.0 on Vista, see this blog entry:
If you need support's help, see:
How to reach support (FAQ) - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2
If the support form can't validate your OneCare subscription, as explained in the FAQ, use the Trial User option and submit an email case, identifying yourself as a subscriber and request the support number for your locale or a call back from support.

Why won't anyone respond to our emails? I purchased this product, it keeps saying I need to subscribe, then tells me my key code is in use.............it is by ME!!!!!!!!!! NOW it says free trial almost over and my computer shows at risk all of the time, from the other posts it appears that I have wasted my money, best buy won't take it as a return, do we need to file a class action lawsuit to get some satisfaction?? I'm convinced that no one who counts reads these posts and I am wasting more time................any suggestions from anyone? I have had it!!!!!!Thursday, March 13, 2008 10:05 PM

I'm convinced that no one who counts reads these posts and I am wasting more time................any suggestions from anyone? I have had it!!!!!! I don't know what your specific problem is. However, you've clearly not read the forums if you think nobody else is reading them. Have you contacted support and not gotten an email response?
It sounds like you have activated a OneCare subscription if the key code is reported to be in use when you try to activate your installed copy. Is this a reinstall or did OneCare never update to subscribed status after you initially activated.
If you have an active subscription, which is what was created when you activated originally, you need to use the same LiveID on the subsequent activations. You can't use the same key twice. If you are arriving at a screen to purchase or provide a token, you are likely not using the same LiveID as the subscription ID.
If this is a install to a 2nd PC, on the first PC, open OneCare and click Help and then About to see your Subscription ID. That is the LiveID to sign in with.
If you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, and this is a reinstall, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.

Alternatively, sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with email addresses that you have set up as LiveIDs and one will show your subscription listed - that would the LiveID to use to activate with.
If you have an active subscription as shown at http://billing.microsoft.com and this is your first installation, but OneCare has not updated your activation status, please contact support.

Thank you for your help, I understand you must have a tough job with fusrated people.
I tried your solutions for the repair of net framework and it didn't fly, I then downloaded the zip file suggested to remove the file and try to reinstall it again using the link that you provided, I fear I've done more damaged than I thought I would with the zip file and now no longer able to boot one live at all, the warning from one live is that "the application configuration is incorrect, reinstalling the application may fix this problem"
now I tried to uninstall the one live from add/remove programs and it replied that one live is already uninstalled, but when I attempted to download a copy from microsoft to replace the program the website replies that I already have a copy on the computer and that I am only allowed one copy per computer.
I'm going to try your FAQ now but any more input on this would help, oh I'm running XP if that helps in anyway.
thanks

Hi, James.
Frustration is okay. I'm a fellow user, not an employee, and I can get frustrated with computers, too!
Try the OneCare cleanup tool:
http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=828910&SiteID=2
This should allow you to get rid of all traces of OneCare so that you can reinstall it.
If, however, .Net Framework is still damaged, the problem will likely persist even after a reinstall. If that is the case, please contact support for help.
