    The search Desktop does not do anything. I tried using it and always came up empty. Am I missing something here? It seems useless.

    That search function is use for when you log on remotely and it searches your files on your WHS. You can always change the index option by clicking on it>windows desktop search options>modify to have it index more files. Or if you think, it's no use to you, just uninstall it.

    By default, it is configured to index only your shared folders.
