WinPe 4.0 vs 5.1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

I have an Acer tablet that I am experimenting with deploying Win8 operating systems by first booting into a 64 bit WinPe environment. I have two versions of the BIOS. With the newer BIOS, I immediately get a blue screen (ACPI_BIOS_ERROR) when I use WinPe 4.0. I then tried with WinPe 5.1 and it seemed to boot ok (old BIOS works fine on both). I have had no luck getting support from Acer so I'm trying to figure this out myself. I'm guessing there is a difference in some boot-critical drivers between the 2 versions of the WinPe that the BIOS is accessing. I am wondering if there are any logs or any way to figure out what difference is causing the problem as well as if its possible to add the needed driver/resource to WinPe 4.0.

Note: This same issue exists in Win 8.0 but not in Win 8.1
