Active directory is rebuilding indecis, please wait... RRS feed

  • Question

I have a similar issue with SBS 2003 server.  I have one server, single DC,  for about 8 people.

I just installed the Norton End Point protection manager console and rebooted and went perfectly fine.

According to Symantec, I had to install the client software on the server which I did.

the installation went smoothly and required a restart.

When the system got restarted, the "active directory rebuild, please wait..."  message appeared and as pauljs's situation the critical services did not start.

I had to force start on these services to gain acces to server "like a workgroup" to have

Today i shut it down to install new hardware and when i restarted it hung for about an hour on "rebuilding active directory indices"

I disabled all Norton services and restarted, but the same issue continues with AD rebuild.

What would you suggest??  Is my only option to demote the server and re-promote to a DC?

Is there any other solution to just run a repair to activate the existing DC name?

    I appreciate any suggestion.
