Alert Viewer - Important updates to be installed

Question
-
Hi,
When i open the Lauchpad i see a warning icon in the bottom right corner which bring up the Alert Viewer. In here a laptop i have is listed as requiring Important updates.
It says that in order to Resolve this alert i should click "Open Windows Update" however, this option, which i have seen for other machines under Tasks is not available.
How do i get this option to be available to me?

Just run Windows Update locally on the laptop in question and once it's up to date the WHS alert will go away.

I thought that would be the answer.
Why in this day and age though can't i simply tell the remote machine to update itself, Or launch a remote Windows Update window like i can on the server?

It could ask me for the username and password on the remote machine pretty much like Remote Desktop does.Or it could allow me to remote into the machine with a simple right click -> remote to machine. Instead, it just tells me that DNSNAME machine needs updated.
Security should not be a disabler to a user who has correct credentials.

It is on Automatic and i do have the issue, the trouble is that there is no "perfect" time to select to install and update automatically.

Updates which require you to agree to a EULA will always require manual intervention. Certain other updates may as well. For other updates, if you have automatic updates on the machine in question will eventually take care of things itself, assuming it's not turned off overnight every night. If you do turn it off when not in use (as opposed to hibernation/sleep modes) and don't tell it to install updates and shut down when there are updates pending, you'll be nagged like this because you're blocking the standard update mechanism.
As for why you can't remote to the machine to take care of the alert, not all computers support incoming remote desktop connections, not all updates can (or should) be installed through remote desktop, and there's probably a presumption that since it's a home machine, the alert is easy enough to take care of by walking over to the machine and dealing with it.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)Saturday, July 16, 2011 6:09 PM -
