    So I started up my HP laptop a couple weeks ago and it started asking me for a new product key.  The problem is, one or two of the numbers/letters are faded and I can't seem to figure them out.  Help please?  Thank you!

    For some reason, your OS is unable to properly read the BIOS SLIC table – the normal fix for this is to change teh Key to the one on your COA sticker – but you say that you are unable to read this.
     
    When this happens, you have two choices:-
    1)Keep trying variations of the Key (hopefully not too many) until one works
    2) reinstall the system using the Recovery media – you MUST back up your data to external media first.
