Please tell me more about your situation. Are you trying to manually run backup while logged in under a limited account? What is the backup destination? Have you configured backup successfully on this PC?

Well, Steve, after all this brain storming, I finally remembered that quite often if I unplug the device for the computer and electricity and reconnect - it if fine. Also, if I have my computer do a restart, it will correct itself.
Yes, I did both and the backup has completed successfully.
A real simple fix, yet it took me so long to remember.
Thanks for listening.

steve: Thank you for answering. I have Windows Live Onecare which is my protection/backup program. I have "My Book Essential Edition" which is an External Hard Drive containing 320 GB from Western Digital. This EHD is larger than my 'c' drive as it is only 250 GB.
I have one desktop computer in my office and no other. Therefore, there is no network involved. Just plain and simple.
I have a paid up subscription with Windows Live Onecare so I know that is not the problem.
It shows my balloon as yellow because the backup has not done what it is supposed to do. When I got 'My Book' I just plugged it in and everything worked properly. THEN, I unplugged it. When I plugged it back in, Windows Live Onecare can't find it, when I do the manual click on the Backup Button.
I am at a loss as to why it will not auto find properly as it did before!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have any ideas, please help. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you - I have been sick in bed for the last two days and had a class to attend and some housework to keep up the day before.
Also, I used to be very computer literate, but as technology has been changing so fast, I have not had the time to keep up with it. My health is not that well either, however is improving.
Thanks,
Mildred
p.s. I just went in to the 'windows live onecare' settings and then to backup configuration. It states External Backup (not connected). But it gives me no instructions except plug it in, which is what I have done and redone several times.

Hello, Mildred. I'm traveling right now, hence the delay in my reply.
I hope that you are feeling better, by the way.
From youre reply, I'm not clear if you have found a solution or workaround or not. Does it work now after you have rebooted the PC? It does seem that the drive is losing the connection to Windows, so OneCare can't see it.-steve
