Win7 Explorer Not Working RRS feed

  • After installing Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron laptop, the program starts, the task bar appears with the date and time then I get an error message that "Explorer is not working." MS searches for solution and says they will get back to me if they discover a fix. I can run explorer in Safe Mode.
    On another forum, it was suggested I run explorer.exe from the Task Manager but when I tried this, I got another error message saying Task Manager not responding and then I am left with a blank wallpaper screen.
    A scheduled chkdsk but this did not help either. I tried to reinstall the ISO disc but this now gives a message saying the installation of Windows is not recognized.
    Can you please recommend a solution short of reformatting my laptop's hard drive?
