How to achieve Forums Curator? How to "Identify a Forums answer"? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

this question was already asked here: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/9bb9b495-7745-4815-95ea-997cdf88ea90/forum-curators?forum=Profile
Nevertheless, the answer there is not correct. When I "propose a solution as answer" and vote for forum answers, these are not for the achievement "Forums Curator".

I already made many many "propose as answer" but don't get the next "Forum Curator" achievement. I asked Microsoft support, they say I don't have enough "Identified a Forums Answer". I only have enough votes.

So when I "propose as answer", I think it's for the achievement "Proposed Answerer".

How can I "Identify a Forums answer"? I can only click "Propose as answer". Microsoft does not answer this question to me, so I ask in this Forum here. Maybe someone can answer correctly? Thank you.

    Regards, Guido

  • As noted in this FAQ:

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/ff395928?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396#How_do_I_earn_achievements

Curator achievements require that you mark replies as the answer and vote replies helpful. The FAQ shows how many of each are needed for each achievement. You are correct that marking replies as proposed answer counts towards the Proposed Answerer achievements.

    Hello,

in the Recognition System FAQ there you can only read "Identify a Forum answer" for "Forum Curator II". But I don't read HOW to "identify" a Forums answer. There you can also find "Proposed Answerer". What is the difference?

I already asked MSDN Forums Feedback (fissues@microsoft.com). They told me, how many times I have "identified" an answer (22 times). But in my activities list of my Profile I already have more than 30 "proposed as answer" in the last 15 days. So where is the difference between "Identify an answer" in the achievement FAQ and the profile button "propose as answer"?

Ok I send a comment to MSDN Site Feedback.

  • At the bottom of each post there are links for "Propose as answer" and "Mark as answer". The later is only available if you are either a moderator or editor in the forum.

Edit: Screen shot of the links at the bottom of each post:

Ah ok, I think I understand the difference.

Since I'm not a moderator I can only mark my own questions as answer.

So to get the "Forum Curator" achievements, I must ask my own questions and mark the answer.
So "Forum Curator" does not depend on "Propose as answer"?

  • So "Forum Curator" does not depend on "Propose as answer"?

It looks to me like it does. Creating and marking your own replies as answer is a wash. No points.

    Thanks for your replies, Dave.

So this is what I think too. IMO it would make no real sense to get "Forum Curator" when I only mark my own questions as answer. I could ask many questions and mark the answer, et voilà I'm a Gold "Forum Curator" *hahaha.

Now I think the counter for "Identified an answer" increases when I "propose an answer" and a moderator or the author of the post "marks" this answer as answer.
I hope I get an answer of MSDN Forum Feedback or MSDN Site Feedback to clarify the question. If I have, I post it here.

  • I believe the Curator achievements are only available to people that are moderators.

The Proposed Answerer achievements require that you mark replies as "Proposed answer", and the someone else mark them as "Answer". They can be very difficult to achieve.

  • Nevertheless, the answer there is not correct.

I agree but I only know how it works on TechNet so I am only assuming that MSDN has the same hierarchy

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/1059.forum-moderation-guide-managing-posts-and-threads-marking-answers.aspx

A key point which I have only seen implied and not explicitly written anywhere (at least in FAQs) is that both Answerers (Editors) and Moderators are invited to the role.

  • Hello,

now Microsoft has answerd to my questions (in italics, I only copy and paste the mail answers):

    2.  Could you please tell me the difference between "Propose as answer" and "Identify as answer". Isn't it the same?
    They are different.

    3. How can I "identify an answer" since I only can "propose an answer"?
Question owner and moderator can “identify an answer”.

With your help here, "identify an answer" means "Mark an answer", it is not "propose an answer".
We will see if I get the Forum Curator II achievement in future, because Microsoft tells me that I have 22 times "identified an answer". I'm not a moderator and I also believe that marking my own questions with an answer should not increase the counter. So it must have something to do with proposing and then the OP/moderator marks the answer.

Thank you for your help and replies.

I'm not a moderator but I have Forum Curator I achievement.

I think when I propose an answer, and the someone else marks as answer, then the Counter for "Identified an answer" increases.

I have proposed many answers (Microsoft validated that), which the OP/moderator never marks as answer, but the Counter is increased for "Proposed Answerer".
