Unable to install updates RRS feed

  • Question

This is the story!  I customer of  mine tried to plug in a USB device, bent the pins and shorted the motherboard.  I install a new motherboard did a repair on XP Home and call in to validate the windows (no ethernet so couldn't validate online).  I downloaded the rest of the drivers and install them fine.  I started to do updates, the first update - windows installer 3.1 - when fine.  Here is where the problem begins, no other updates install.  Weither I go to the website or automatic updates they all fail.  Uninstall and reinstalled the windows installer 3.1, nothing.

Recap: Changed motherboard, Did a repair on XP Home (didn't want the client to loose everything) activated XP, installed drivers, and now update don't work.
