off topic - bought computer RRS feed

I bought a used computer for my daughter with WIndows XP Pro already installed.  The previous owners do not remember their password and even  when I try to start it in safe  mode it needs a password.  If I type in guest it tells me the domain is wrong.  I cannot reboot it with a WindowsXP disk because they have auto-run turned off for the diskdrive.  Any suggestions?

You'll probably need to reset the BIOS if it is protected by a password and then boot from a Windows XP CD to reinstall, formatting the drive in the process. To find out how to change settings in the BIOS or reset it and to find out if you can obtain help in returning the PC to factory condition through a recovery CD or similar, contact the PC manufacturer or refer to the documentation, if any, for the PC.
