Upgrade from 4.0 to 2011 Question concerning workflows/system jobs

Question
-
We are working on upgrading from CRM 4.0 to 2011. One of the questions our consultant is a bit hesitant on is what will happen to waiting workflows. In order to manage our automated communications, we have tens of thousands of workflows in various states of waiting. What will happen to all these workflows? We're trying to sort out how to put these people back in the correct stage of the communications path should these be wiped, but it is looking to be a nightmare.
Does anyone have any advice?

Any workflow in a waiting state will maintain that state, and continue working after the upgrade. One exception is if the workflow uses a CRM 3.0 custom workflow activity. These were supported in CRM 4.0, but aren't in CRM 2011.
I suggest you run a trial upgrade on a separate server to confirm the behaviour. If there are problems with upgrading any workflows, then this will show up in the setup log

The upgrade was completed Friday night (we didn't really have a choice in the matter), so I was ecstatic to see all my workflows working before I left (I didn't stick around to update this post). Thanks for your help!Wednesday, December 21, 2011 9:22 PM
