help - stranded with no validation RRS feed

  • Help...

Here's an approximate history of how I got where I'm at.  I an HP PC, XP Media Center that I bought direct from HP about a year ago.  It's been fine, auto updates, everything works fine.

I went to update to both IE7 and WMP 11 about a week ago.  Well, I had problems and things weren't installing correct.   I gave up on IE7 (a couple attempts to install, reboot, check the log).  When I was trying to install WMP11 it said I wasn't validated.  Then, for some reason, it came on and updated.  I hoped all the validation stuff was cleaned out.

Today I tried IE7 again when my auto update asked me if I wanted to install it again today.  I tried through IE6.  No luck.  It says :

    Validation Incomplete: Internet Connection Problem

So then I go through Netscape and try.  I use the download technique (I've used it before and was able to paste in codes).  So that fails too.  "Code not available" is the popup message.

I try the IE download page and see on "windowsupdate.microsoft.com" a blank page (??)

I checked and my HP computer has the proper sticker on it. (HP isn't that desparate).

So now I figure I'm stuck - nothing will update and I can't validate.  I try the diag tool.  It's cool - it says "Genuine"  - now if only that would communicate with the server!  (I tried doing "repair connection" on the PC in case there was anything wrong there - connections to the outside world seem pretty normal, but I thought maybe some DNS cache was goofy or something.

Here's my log from the diag tool:

    Thanks,

Your computer isn't able to run validation at all - there are some serious configuration errors (as well as your OEM binary files are modified in such a way that prevents validation from occuring). Its probably best if you submit for a free WGA service case below, so our support agents can walk you through steps to resolve your problem.

It looks like you're having a problem with your MS XML Parser.

Please update to the latest one here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=993c0bcf-3bcf-4009-be21-27e85e1857b1&displaylang=en

and then go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag and re-run diagnostics. What happens?

  • Hi Phil,

    Thanks for looking at this.

I clicked on the link above.  I picked the first download of XML (I wasn't sure which one).  Then I restarted the PC.   I clicked on the link above.  The diagnostics passed (although they had passed before when I did the diagnostic page).   Odd thing was I clicked continue and it brought me back to the forum (instead of the verification page!).  I did it again and same thing. (?)

Genuine check still has "code unavailable".

For completeness, here's the new MGA Diag copy/paste:
