On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0x80070424' to display the error text.

This computer is a Dell Inspirion 1764, and is a couple of years old.  It has been doing this problem for a week now.

You’ve been using a registry cleaner – WiseFixer, probably
    – if so then that’s the cause of your problems and you should UNDO anything it’s done, and then post another report.
What has happened is that something has uninstalled the Software Protection Service – which controls the WGA aspects of the PC, and is required to run at all times in normal mode.
This is easy enough to fix - but there may be other problems afterwards, so do come back with the new MGADiag report afterwards. Have you been using Registry Cleaners or Optimisers?

     sc sidtype sppsvc UNRESTRICTED

Open an Elevated Command Prompt window - click on the Start button, and in the Search box, type CMD. wait for the system to find the one file, then right-click on that and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt if you get one

Right-click on the C:\ icon (top left of the window) and select Edit... >Paste

You should get Success responses after each line of code (you may need to hit the Enter key to complete the last line)

    when complete, reboot.

Once you've rebooted, check to see if the Service has started - if so, then check that the Volume Shadow Copy Service is also present, and starts on request.

Post back with a new MGADiag report, and the results of the above.

I have been using Advanced System Care 3.7.3 Pro and I believe that either the Registry Fix or Security Fix deleted something and caused this problem.

I have been using Advanced System Care 3.7.3 Pro and I believe that either the Registry Fix or Security Fix deleted something and caused this problem.

Heh – ASC is the other well-known cause of this problem (in fact I’ve only just removed it from my standard boilerplate – maybe I should put it back in?)

It looks as if the WGA problem is now solved – whatever other problems using any registry cleaner leave you with will have to be resolved elsewhere.
PLEASE do yourself a favour, and swear never to use such products again!

    Good Luck.

  • This worked for an issue I had with Windows 7 Home Premium.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks alot for this, I had this issue after updating to Windows 8.1 Pro from Windows 8 (no registry cleaner used), and I noticed the sppsvc (software protection) service was completely missing, and so was the sppsvc.exe from Windows\system32. I ran your commands and installed the service successfully, then ran sfc /scannow to replacement the missing file.  Now Windows is showing as activated, brilliant thanks for your help

  • That surprises me - I didn't think Win8.1 had the same registry entry!

    Good luck, anyhow.

  • Hi, I got a very similar problem like this, I did run a wise registry cleaner a few weeks ago, is this the reason for the problem?

I tried to run the commands listed in bold  above, but the problem was still there.

can anyone help me to solve the issue?

    With many thanks.

  • Yes, almost certainly, Wise software is the cause of your problem.

You should start a new post with your own diagnostic report, and wait for analysis.
