Dell XPS M1730 w/ Win7 not rebooting after restore RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently reinstalled Win7 on a formatted hard-drive.  The drive originally had 2 partitions, 10Gb and 190Gb.  Now the entire drive is one partition.  I used the WHS recovery CD to choose my backup and restore the volume.  I was not aware that WHS would mess with the MBR if an OS is already installed but oh well... lessons learned!

I have been through the restarts many times, doing the Win7 DVD restart to run repair.  used command prompt to run Bootrec /rebuildbcd.  I have also ran Bootrec with many of the options other than rebuilding the bcd manually.  All with no luck.

Does anyone have advice on next steps.

Is it possible to restore a subset of the backup?

    Thanks, much appreciated!
