Server Backup to spanned HDD RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to point the server backup to a dynamic spanned drive of 3x 2TB=6TB set up prior in storage manager of WHS 2011? Will  bare metal restore of the server be possible with this setup?

    Thanks

  • Not using native WHS tools (Dashboard) - 2TB is the limit due to the use of a VHD container.

  • Thank you. I was aware of the inability to pool hdd's in the dashboard adding them to server backup. My question is, if I create a spanned drive in the server manager ON THE SERVER MACHINE ITSELF, let say drive X:, and then add this drive X: to server backup. Would that be possible? If yes, would it be possible to bare metal restore the server from this spanned drive X: in case of a OS drive failure? The 2 TB limit is limiting the physical drive size per backup file. So if I have 3 X 2 TB drives to be backed up should be no problem until the capacity of the beckup destination drive is large enough? Now here comes the problem. I would need a drive with 8 Tb. for the backup. How can I work around this problem without shelling out a lot of money for alarge capacity drive? I have plenty of 2 and 4 TB drives. Thank you Tibor
