  • Question

  • I have an unusual situation. I have a genuine windows xp home edition disk which was installed in my computer. Last year when I took it to a local shop for minor repair, they installed windows xp professional w/o telling me and now I get the mesage that it is not genuine. How can I resolve this without formatting my disk and losing all my files? I am happy with xp home edition.

    Nice name! :)

Anywho, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there is no way to go from XP Pro to Home without a reinstall. None. :(

There exists an easy way to go from Pro to Pro, Home to Home, or Home to Pro, but not the last case.

I'm sorry. You CAN do an extra install, however, that will allow you to keep your files on your computer. Boot off the CD and install on top of the old windows. The old one will be named Windows.old.

    I hope this helps!
