Previously good product code showing as invalid RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had office 2007 installed on my old lap top.  It was genuine and I had a product key which I saved.  The version I had was dowloaded via Ultimate steal the reduce price software for students.  I subsequently upgraded to 2010 but unistalled 2007.  Recently i purchased a new lap top and transferred the 2010 to the new lap top. i wanted to reinstall office 2007 on my old laptop but it says the previously valid product key is invalid.  When I try to use support option because the software is not installed it won't allow me to get help without paying rather a high price.

  • Hello Churchhouseuser,

It sounds like there may be remnants left over from that copy of Office 2010 that maybe interfering with the Office 2007.

I first recommend uninstall any Office program you can find on the PC and then go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/e and scroll down to the "Fix it for me" section. First fun the fix it for Office 2010 and then for Office 2007 (we don't want anything left from any past Office installs).  Once done, reboot and then try installing Office 2007 again. I believe it should work now.

If it doesn't, I recommend posting in the Office Answer Forums at http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/group/Office for further assistance.

    Hope that helps,

    Darin MS
