one care purchased but cannot get working

Question
-
I had a trial version of one care, and I purchased a one year subscription to it to keep my computer at least moderately protected.
Here is the rub...
I was told to go to my activation wizard and activate the code for my subscription...the problem is that I cannot find an activation wizard in my one care, and I never got an activation code, just a paid bill receipt.
When I go to the subscription service on one care the following error happens
signing in was unsuccessful because of an error...
Error code 80048265
this is while I am signed in to windows live with the very same ID and password
I then try to reach support at the following link...
http://help.live.com/help.aspx?project=OneCareV2_5_Client&mkt=en-us&querytype=topic&query=OneCare_TROU_TroubleshootInstallationIssues.htm
the window opens and sits there waiting for minutes without ever opening the application
Now I have no protection, no product code, no way to get support, and I am out $50. I am not going to pay the $60 microsoft wants for phone support for this product, and I think it is incredibly stupid of microsoft to believe that this is a good way to conduct business.
I would like some help with this before I write off microsoft completely and walk over to apple and unix
thanx

Hello gsnickle, I'm sorry you are having difficulty activating your subscription. The 80048265 eror I think is a sign in error. I suggest having a look at this thread which may help - http://social.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/onecareinstallandactivate/thread/baf82319-336f-4a1c-9e90-71b3f8f110d2/

Thank you Jim,
I would think that that response would have been part of the FAQ for the installation of the one care. Seems like many people are having this problem. I am just glad it works now, and it was a 30 second fix for a problem that I have been dealing with for hours.
thanx

Good idea, Garth.
Also, this page from the Online Help Center, which purports to address this sign-in issue and error message, might be a long walk that takes you everywhere but where you need to go. Maybe this needs some revision: http://help.live.com/help.aspx?project=onecarev2_5_client&market=en-us&querytype=topic&query=onecare_trou_error_80048869.htmGreginMich
