Problems installing Live Mesh Client

Question
-
Hi,
I wanted to try out Live Mesh but ran in to problems while trying to install the client. At the end of the installation, the installer says that "Some Updates were not configured" and then the number 80040154. The "get more help" link redirects to the help home page and I am not able to figure out what the problem is. The installer finishes successfully but a exclamatory icon is coming next to the PC icon. The web interface has the "Connect" button disabled. Can some one please help out with the problem? Folder synchornisation seems to be working...
The client is installed on a laptop (Vostro 1500) running Vista SP1 (patched current through Windows Update ) / Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize for the installation issues you are going through. To determine the cause of this problem, we need to ask you to provide us with your log files. To help track your issue, we ask that you send those logs to the following email address: lmprev@microsoft.com.
To create the log files for Live Mesh reporting:
1. Click "Start."
2. Select "All Programs" and look for the "Live Mesh" folder.
3. Click "Collect Live Mesh Logs."
4. Your logs will be bundled together in a cab file now located on your desktop. This file contains the information we need to resolve your concern.
Please note that even though the cab file contains all of the necessary information, our support tool will only accept the file in zip format. Please ensure you follow the rest of the steps to zip the file before sending.
5. Zip the cab file. There are many zipping utilities out there but the most common is Win Zip. If you have Win Zip, right -click on the file and click "Add to Zip." The file will be saved in your desktop, then click "Add."
6. Open a new e-mail message and attach your "LiveMeshLogs.zip" file located on your desktop
7. Send your zip file to lmprev@microsoft.com.
Thank you for your patience,

If you have Windows Firewall service set to Manual and it isn't started, try to start it. After that maybe you could install Live Mesh. This solution works for me.Thursday, November 6, 2008 12:08 PM

I dont use Windows Firewall. My Laptop came preinstalled with Mcafee Personal Firewall and it is turned on. Is this what that is causing the problem? I am unable to figure out from the error message (which only shows a number).

Well, i really don't know if you have same problem as me. But i figure out from Servicing.log (C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Temp\Live Mesh\) that installer is trying to access Windows Firewall COM object. But beacuse i don't use it and i have disabled it in Services long time ago, installer just shuts down with error code as you described.
So, if you have disabled Windows Firewall this way, try to enable it. But when you are using Mcafee Personal Firewall i fear that you can't start windows firewall. I don't know how those two firewalls will interact and there is a possibility that windows may stuck in a blue screen. I think that safest way for you will be to wait for next version of Live Mesh, where this problem will be resolved. Hopefully someone is reading this forum and will repair this problem in next version of Live Mesh.Friday, November 7, 2008 1:12 PM -
Thanks a ton for the info.
I dug out and went through the Servicing.log that I had sent Imprev ID (the current Servicing[0000].log in my AppData directory is 0 bytes having no data. Anyways as you mentioned the log had the below pasted content. Seems like it is trying to apply some update (not sure if it is for Windows Firewall or to Live Mesh itself) but whatever it is - it seems like it is timing out and disabling the remote desktop feature of Live Mesh :( - need to check if it is mentioned anywhere that Live Mesh does not support third party Firewalls....
Once again thanks a lot for the help. Atleast now I know what is troubling Live Mesh... I guess I will have to wait for a reply from the Live Mesh team... :( - would have really loved the remote desktop feature...

Yep,
as i can remember my log looked almost same. After install of update it calls CPackage::Process_windowsFirewall() 0x80040154 and what i can find out is that 0x80040154 is some kind of generic error for COM objects which means that requested object isn't registered. So i have tried to start windows firewall and it helps.Sunday, November 9, 2008 7:47 PM -
Hi,
Please go ahead and send email with your Servicing log to lmprev@microsoft.com and we'll work on resolving it with you.
Thanks,
