• Question

  • I have searched high and low for any and all types of material for exam 77-887 and cannot find anything.  Not even a book.  The only books I can find at Barnes and Noble or Borders are on how to use Word 2010, I need material specifically geared toward the exam.

Please help!  I need to take and pass this exam as soon as possible.

As a last resort is there anywhere I can find a detailed outline or material that shows the differences between Word 2007 and Word 2010 that specifically relate to taking the Expert Level exam.

  • Hi Ayana,

I can't help thinking that the speed is not your best friend here. Especially for the expert exams time and effort are in place. There is no specific material for the exams. The guidance is the step by step series. I always like to add th inside out series as an additional guidance because it gives your more depth. For the expert exams this is a good start.

Look in this list where you will find some resources:

Differences between 2007 and 2010 are not the key elements to the exams. You know 'backstage' is a new feature in 2010 so focus on that. Now where to find what you might never use.

Furthermore expert exams are always about the extra functionality which you wouldn't use daily. How stupid it may sound i sometimes use my own questions. Place yourself in the shoes of the examiners. What questions would you ask?

Prepare and don't rush. It would be a pity if you flunked this just by pacing yourself to get this exam done.

    Good luck and prepare well.

  • If you need something specific and if the time allows, you can try this "What’s New In Microsoft Office 2010 (Hands-On Lab)"

    Good luck with your exam!

  • Here are the skills measured in the Word 2010 Expert exam; you can muddle around here for the others.

The "MOS 2010 Study Guide for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook" by Joan & Joyce - is finally coming out March 31. HOWEVER, this may not have the topics for the Expert exam. very frustrating, I know, Ayana! I bought it and will check it out. I hope so, as the books are costing me alot of money.

I bought the Step By Step for Word 2010 (too basic/broad for the Expert level), I bought the above mentioned study guide (may not cover expert exam topics). So you frustration is understandable. As Maurice mentioned above, take your time and prepare thouroughly. I found the excel expert exam much more difficult than it should have been if i'd had the proper materials...alas.

I also heard the expert topics supposedly are coming out in a book this August by another author (I forgot his name)... It is so much easier to have the right guide and just check off each exercise in the proper study guide. Hope that helps. Again there is no curriculum for the Expert Exams for Word & Excel that I know of till August...

    Good luck!

**sorry about the wrong link - corrected it to the expert exam

  • Thanks Matilda.

I have the What's New In Microsoft Office 2010 Lab.  Its great!  Unfortunately I'm only interested in Word 2010 and that section of the What's New Lab does not cover the topics on an expert level.

Thanks for sharing though.  I know I will use that information, just not for the exam.

    Ayana  :-)

  • Thanks Vincent.

My co-worker picked up the Inside and Out and thinks it may do the trick, if used in combination with other materials so that's good.

The Step by Step I've heard by too many people, is very general.

May considering picking up the Inside Out.

  • Hey redheadninja Users MedalsUsers Medals(Love that screen name), Thanks for all the information.

I'm in sort of a pickle.  My MCT License is expiring at the end of this month and in order to renew I need to pass a few 2007/2010 courses so August won't work for me.

I spoke with Certiport and here is there response.  This is the testing center that provides the vouchers.  Unbelievable!

For Certiprep Exam 77-887 prep materials you must contact a testing center that offers it.  You may locate a center by following this link otherwise the only 2010 training material is Gmetrix contact to purchase that.

These options only contain core level, due to the recent development of the expert exam (about a month ago) there is not yet training material available; however, here is a link of the Objective Domains (material covered on the exam)

  • Hi Ayana,

It's difficult to give good advice about what to use for prep. Everyone has preferences. Personally i always go in 'cold turkey' because i believe that i should know all the stuff based on experience. I teach office (every version) and believe that hands on experience is still the best way to go.

As one might expect the expert exam focuses more on the technical side and features of word than the core exam. I can say that the 'inside out' series does a pretty good job of covering almost everything. Sure you'll read a lot about features that will not be in the exam but that won't hurt anyway true?

Just don't forget to display the developer tab when you are working hands on because that's turned of by default but essential for prep. for the expert exams.

The ribbon hero as mentioned by Ed is also a great additional tool for prep. hands on.

    Don't worry you'll do just fine ;-)
