one care problem with xp RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I double click on program icons to activate a program, the computer just sits there for 15-20 seconds before it will execute the program. When it does start, the program screen many times says 'program not responding'. Uninstalled one care and this situation does not exist anymore. One care works fine on my other computer with vista. Don't want to be without a virus checker, but this is getting exasperating.

  • Do you mean that *any* program you launch is unresponsive or do you mean that OneCare will not open?
If you mean the latter. If so, there are two possible causes that are the most likely:
    1. The PC date and time are wrong. Check the year, month, day and reboot if you fix them.
    2. .Net Framework is damaged:
To repair .Net Framework 2.0 on XP:
    Open Control Panel
    Select Add or Remove Programs
    Locate Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0
Select the entry and when the installer launches, select Repair.
    Reboot when it completes.
Alternatively, see this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306160

If you mean that any program can occasionally fails to launch or launches very slowly, but that removing OneCare makes this problem go away, there would seem to be a conflict with the OneCare scan engine. If there is other security software on the PC that is providing active protection, it should be removed. If you are unable to indentify a conflict, please contact support to ahve this investigated.
