MS Office Word 2007 Validation - incorrect product key RRS feed

  • Question

  •

    Dear Sir,

I cannot validate my Microsoft Office Word 2007 and every time I start Word it requests the product key.

I just bought my laptop and the product key pasted to the bottom of the machine is being rejected.

I was not sent a disc so I presume someone at the factory glued the wrong sticker to my machine.

I ran MGA diagnostic tool and pressed copy but the program wanted to burn a disc. I pressed cancel and now cannot get it to copy again.

I have been unable to cut and paste the information, so I’ve typed it.

  • Computer manufacturers often install a trial version of Microsoft Office.  If you are getting a prompt to type in a Product Key when opening a Microsoft Office program, it s likely the trial period is over and you'll need to purchase a license (product key) for Microsoft Office.

The product key affixed to your computer is for Windows Vista (the operating system) and not for Microsoft Office.  Please review the following:

  • paulnewcombe2000,

In order to best help you, we will need for you to copy and paste the full diagnotic.

Please rerun the MGADiag tool and repost.

Also make sure to use the Copy button; that will ensure the full diagnostic result.

    Thank you,

  • Thanks for the quick response

Unfortunately I can't get the diagnostic tool to copy.

I press the copy buttion but nothing happens.

Has it created a copy somewhere on my system, in which case can you tell me where it is stored and what type of file would it be.

It will not let me cut and paste the results.

    Thank you

First of all, I'd like to thank the forum for their help.

    Frustratingly I am still stuck.

I have the full version of office - not a trial version - thank you to Carey above whose help I followed to determine this.

So where I'm at now is that I am having problems getting the MGA diagnostic tool to copy its findings.

It runs okay, but clicking the copy button gets no response at all.

I have downloaded it 3 times just to rule out any buggy version - still no luck, none of the versions will copy their results.

Must have run the tool about 10 times now.

As I said in my first post the first time I ran the tool it wanted to burn something to disc which I cancelled (I'm quite willing to accept I may have hit another button inadvertently and that the burning option had nothign to do with the tool).

    Since then nothing.

Thanks again for taking the time to read this.

  • Thank you for the help

    Problem solved.

    But!

I don't want to buy office but I would like to use word without having to be prompted for the product key.

Is there a way of validating Word without paying any extra money - I'm on a budget, and £600 for a laptop has eaten it all up.

    Thanks.

    Paul.
