Change a users name RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm using CRM 4.0 and need to change a users name.
When I modify the user's Domain Logon Name and save the record, I receive an error message stating:

You do not have the necessary permissions to change the domain logon name for this user.

I know there's a work around, but can't remember exactly how to do this.

    Thanks,

  • Thanks for all the suggestions.
I was able to change the user's name in our Production environment.

There must be something wrong with our Test environment. I cannot change the user's name in that environment.

I have the SysAdmin role and can add new users.

  • Are you CRM System Administrator? Please check your security role, make sure you have the permission.
The work around you talked about I guess if change user information from SQL database, it's Not supported!

You can find the domain logon name via the SQL script:

    SELECT     DomainName
    FROM        OrgName_MSCRM..SystemUserBase

  • Hi,

It's clear that you are not privileged user. Make sure you are a system administrator or at least have write permissions on the user entity.

  • I do have the role of System Administrator and can make the change in our Prod environment.  My access is the same in both PROD and TEST.

I cannot rename the user in TEST.

  • I would recommend that you recreate the user in CRM with the new domain user name and then disable the old user record.  If you want to delete the old user (not recommended), search this forum, you will able to find topic related to removing a user from CRM.

  • Be advised that ownership of that users records can be transfered to the new CRM account prior to disabling the CRM user that will have a new name.   Generally we don't delete accounts from AD anymore.   Applications like Outlook/Exchange and CRM have taught us that.  We create a new account and replicate the object rights and security.

It's a good practice to follow.

I hope all of us were of some service to you.
